THIS year's Dromore In Action November Fair takes place this weekend, kicking off with a preliminary 'Auto Test' event at Quillyburn on Friday ahead of the Fair proper on Saturday.
Dromore's neighbourhood policing team is organising the second annual Auto Test, in conjunction with Dromore In Action, at Quillyburn Industrial Estate on Friday night, beginning at 7.30pm.

A number of rally drivers are involved and in return for a £5 donation (all proceeds in aid of the Shine A Light charity) participants will be driven on a few laps around the course.

Among the cars expected is the Northern Ireland Championship winning Four-Wheel Drive Mazda RX7 of Banbridge man David Woods; built by Davy Greer of Carryduff, it is a hybrid car with mismatched gearbox.

The Auto Test will also provide the backdrop for Operation Road-Safe, with the mobile police station on site and Dromore firefighters will be carrying out a car cutting/rescue display.

Cars will again be the stars during the Fair day itself, when the Vintage Vehicle Cavalcade leaves from Lurgan Road at 2.30pm, ahead of children's games from 3-3.30pm and the dog show at 4pm.

The day will begin with a charity breakfast at The Ranch, offering all you can eat for £4, from 9am to 11am, when Miss November Fair will officially open events.

McDonald Memorial Pipe Band will be providing music from 11.15am-11.30am and from 12noon-1pm there will be a magic show/balloon modelling with Andrew Fullerton.

At 1.30pm there will be a guest appearance by one of the Doctor's (Who?) most fearsome foes, the daleks.

All of the Fair events will centre on Market Square, where throughout the day music will be provided by The Preacher and Mrs. Magee, the Cowpats, Peter Branker and Dromore's Got Talent winner Zoe Skillen.

Other attractions will include rare breeds, face painting, bouncy castle, Mrs. Jamison's homemade soda bread and a host of charity and craft stalls.

Park and ride will be available from Dromore Community Centre with local taxi firm BJ Cabs.

The day's events will wrap up with a charity barbecue (again in aid of Shine a Light) at The Ranch, from 8pm 'til late. Music by Stevie B. Admission £10.

MEN'S HEALTH ADVICE ON OFFER AT FAIR

BANBRIDGE District Council and the Southern Group Environmental Health Committee have teamed up with the Public Health Agency to provide information and advice about men's health at the November Fair in Market Square, Dromore on Saturday.
The 'Male Health Zone' initiative has been funded by the Public Health Agency through the Southern Investing for Health Partnership with a view to tackling health inequalities within the southern area.
A team of experts on men's health will be present at the fair from 1pm until 3pm to promote local health services as well as provide information on a range of health-related issues such as healthy eating, cancer awareness and drug and alcohol misuse.
Men who smoke will be able to avail of a free test to check the level of carbon monoxide in their body and the amount of lung damage from smoking. Local business, Johnston's Pharmacy, will have a pharmacist available to provide advice on smoking cessation services.
Dromore Councillor David Herron is urging local men to avail of this opportunity to visit the 'Male Health Zone' whether they have any health concerns or not.
He said, "Men treat their health as a low priority while they juggle the competing demands of work and family life.
"In our council area, men live on average 4.7 years less than women. This gap could be reduced if men took better care of their health.
"Routine annual health checks are highly effective in spotting early warning signs of health problems and in some cases saving lives."
Una Cushnahan from the Public Health Agency added, "We hope the 'Male Health Zone' will help encourage men to take responsibility for their own health as well as raise awareness about accessing services in their area."
