ULSTER Unionist councillor Carol Black says she is delighted with the new Kerbside Recycling Scheme which will start at the beginning of April.
Councillor Black said she had just received her new green bin which will take place from the old black kerby box.
“This is a much bigger bin and will hold so much more recycling within every home in the District,” she said.
“There is a little black caddy inside the bin for glass bottles, jars while there is plenty of room for the rest of your rubbish such as cardboard, paper, metal and your Tetra Paks like juice and soup.
“With your information pack inside you will find stickers for all your bins which will help with deciding which items are best for which bin.
“So as a special incentive local school children will be taking photos of their parents and grandparents sticking on the new stickers - so beware,” she joked.
Councillor Black added, “The new bin will be more user friendly and addresses the problems with the box that have been routinely reported by householders and through the recycling survey the Council conducted in 2008, in other words that that the box wass light and got damaged/blown away easily, as well as being awkward to carry to the kerbside especially for the elderly.
“As a local councillor I often had many complaints that the old system lead to littering of the area.
“But this new system should increase the percentage of our waste that is recycled; complement our brown bin recycling scheme, with the brown bin - used for organic garden and all food waste - being collected each fortnight on the same day, at the same time as the new green bin; and produce savings to the Council and ratepayer, projected to be close to £3 million over a 10 year period.
“So your new green bin will go out with your brown bin every other week. If you require special help with your bin please call Banbridge District Council.
