Via Wings forging ahead with new projects

NOT content to rest on its laurels, the award-winning team at Dromore’s ‘Via Wings’ charity is forging ahead with new projects.

First up, and launching this week, is the ‘Nom Nom Movie House’.

Up and running as of yesterday (Monday) the initiative gives over the charity’s Iveagh Terrace House of Hope to a mix of movies, music and chat in a “warm, friendly atmosphere”.

All are welcome to go along on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays to sample the accompanying spread of winter warming food, from tea, coffee and light bites to soups, stews and casseroles.

The message to potential patrons is “eat what you want; give what you can”.

Meanwhile, also in the offing is a fundraising abseil. Saturday, April 28 is the chosen date and further details will be available in due course on the charity’s website - www.viawings.co.uk; alternatively, contact Sue at the House of Hope.

Plans are also in the pipeline to establish a men’s group in the year ahead.

Only recently the recipient of a prestigious Pride of Place Award, ‘Via Wings’ - set up to provide help as an eagle’s wings help its young - is a charity aiming to offer a caring and non-discriminatory environment for the entire community.

The House of Hope, at 3 Iveagh Terrace, is one of the group’s flagship projects, providing a place where women can find someone to listen, understand, help and advise.

The house is also described as a place to learn and build confidence, skills and knowledge by way of various courses, including, to date, a Paediatric First-Aid course run by the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps; a Baby Massage course delivered by local Health Visitors and a Healthy Lifestyle course run by a doctor, dietician and drug awareness team.

Another leading Via Wings project is ‘Dare2Care’, an initiative furnishing local families in need with essential provisions.

Launched in summer 2009, and continually expanding, the project sees food distributed within the local community.
