A TURNOUT of 40 bands and crowds of spectators, great weather and excellent music all helped ensure the success of Skeogh Flute Band's recent annual parade in Dromore.
The band also took up a total collection of £1,180 on the night, "An excellent amount," said a spokesman, "which will be used to help buy much needed new flutes."
Bands flocked to Dromore from as far afield as Cookstown, Ballymena, Ballmoney and Omagh, turning in what was hailed as overall a "very good" performance, some standing out more than others both musically and in terms of appearance.
In a change this year the bands' musical ability was judged from behind a screen, allowing concentration on each band's sound alone.
A spokesman said, "We required all bands stop in the judging area, which allowed this fully qualified, independant judge to judge bass drum, drum corps and musical performance.
"We think this was a success and didn't interrupt the flow of bands too badly."
The same area was also at the disposal of those judging Drum Majors, Colour Party, Style and Appearance.
The spokesman thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
"Skeogh would like to take this opportunity to thank all the bands who made the effort to be at our parade, plus a big thank you to the judges, who did an excellent job.
"We would like to thank the people of Dromore for once again showing their support for the band; we would also like to thank Banbridge District Council for providing portable toilets at the start of the parade and allowing the band the use of the 'Drumore Room'.
"A big thank you also to the local PSNI who were very helpful and to Mr. Jackie McCracken for providing sweets to be handed out to the children spectating."
Skeogh Flute Band hopes to run another function later in the year, again to raise money towards the purchase of new flutes.
Meanwhile, the band's team in the Belfast Marathon Relay finished the race in 4hrs, 29mins and 31secs.
The final amount raised for CLIC Sargent is as yet unknown and will be announced as soon as all of the money has been collected.
