First Sport Relief Mile takes off from Dromore

DROMORE is set to host its first Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in March and an appeal has gone out for local people to dust down their trainers and support it.

Setting off from Dromore Leisure Centre on Sunday, March 25, runners can choose to complete a one-mile, three-mile or six-mile course in aid of Sport Relief which raises money for disadvantaged people in the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.

The initiative has a unique history of dedicated people doing extraordinary things, including television personalities such as David Walliams who last year swam 140 miles along the River Thames and raised over £1 million for the BT Sport Relief Challenge.

It kicks off this year on Friday, March 23, and everyone can get involved by getting active and raising cash at home, work or school.

Said spokesperson Liz Doak, “There will be lots of BBC radio, television and online coverage to keep everyone entertained in the lead up to the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday, 25th March.

“On a local level, the Dromore event is set to attract everyone from teeny-tots to mums and dads and super-sprinters.

“We want everyone to enter the mile and support a great cause.

“And you don’t have to be ‘sporty’ - entrants can choose to complete one, three or six miles, safe in the knowledge that all money raised will help change the lives of people living unimaginably tough lives right here on our doorstep, across the rest of the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.”
