Banbridge Rotary Club had, as its guest speaker at a recent meeting, Dr. Spiro Antiochos – a senior scientist with NASA.

Dr. Antiochos is a world renowned expert in space science and is the author of much internationally acclaimed research on solar and plasma physics as well as being the recipient of many major awards in this field.

He was accompanied by his wife, Mary, whose father originally hailed from Banbridge.

A spokesperson said: “The evening proved most successful with almost 40 members and friends present and despite the complexity of his subject and his considerable expertise, he was able to keep his talk simple and most informal.

“He outlined the significance of the work he undertakes and how it can apply to current and future developments in everyday life.” Club President, Lynda Shields, said “it was a privilege to have Dr. Antiochos present at a club meeting. The evening was a great success and the number of questions bore testimony to the level of interest he generated amongst those present”.
