Businesses encouraged to make better use of the web

MORE than 40 businesses from across Banbridge, Armagh, Ards and Cragiavon districts were this week challenged to make better use of the excellent digital infrastructure available in Northern Ireland.

Attendees at the Digital Northern Ireland 2020 Roadshow learnt how vital technology will be to enhancing their ability to compete in the global economy and improve their business.

The event, which took place on Wednesday 23 January at the Banbridge Enterprise Centre, was organised in collaboration with Banbridge District Council and Banbridge District Enterprises Ltd, and was led by Dr Sinclair Stockman, Executive Director of Digital Northern Ireland 2020.

Digital Northern Ireland 2020 aims to proactively exploit the potential of Northern Ireland’s digital platform, to maximize economic growth, improve quality of life and assist social regeneration.

Dr. Sinclair Stockman has over 30 years of technology and operational experience on the global stage and is involved in communicating the technical advantages of Northern Ireland in order to develop economic and business models that will act as blueprints to stimulate and accelerate growth.

Dr. Stockman commented, “It was great to see so many business men and women engaging in productive dialogue about how they can better use the technology we have available.

“Digital communication technology can and will transform our local economy and our society, but the companies that exploit our digital platform will be the first to benefit.”

Other speakers conveyed their experiences of how digital technologies have helped to transform their businesses. Josh Neilly from Banbridge’s Franklins Group informed the seminar of how the company has embraced e-commerce and of the positive benefits this had on business sales. Meanwhile, Dermot Walsh, Chief Executive of Whisple Cloud Services communicated how the use of cloud services can greatly enhance the efficiency of a business.
