Leader editor pays tribute to council during awards

Banbridge and Dromore Leader Multi-Media Content Editor, Damian Wilson, paid tribute to Banbridge Council during his speech at the Banbridge Business awards.

Mr. Wilson thanked the Council and its officers for their help in organising the event.

But he said the thanks of the area went beyond the night’s events.

“It is easy to knock the council, and the Leader has done so when it was needed,” he said.

“But I don’t think the people of Banbridge will realise the value of the council until it’s gone. “I have worked with many councillors over the years and they all had one thing in common -they wanted to make this area a better place for all of us.

“People such as Joan Baird, Seamus Doyle and Jim McElroy, to name but a few, have put in countless hours of work over the years.

“And in the out-going Chief Executive, Liam Hannaway, Banbridge had a champion to fight its corner, second to none.”

The Leader Multi-media Content Editor, welcomed everyone to the event on behalf of the Leader and offered a special word of welcome to the special guest for the evening, Jonathan Bell, MLA.

Mr. Wilson said the Leader was delighted to be hosting the third such event of its kind.

“Once again, the entries have been remarkable and I know the judges have had a very tough job,” he stated.

Mr. Wilson went on to thank the sponsors, without whom, he said, the night would simply not take place.

He thanked the Leader’s events team of Karen Fitzmaurice and Julie Bailie for organising the event and thanked compere, Mr. John Dobson.
