Specsavers is to open its first store in Banbridge, creating seven new jobs.

The new store, based on Newry Street, will span 2,078 sq. ft and is set to open mid-October.

Lambert Smith Hampton are exclusively retained to act on behalf of Specsavers across Northern Ireland and has been working with the business for a number of years.

Banbridge Specsavers ophthalmic director Wayne Watson said he was delighted to be opening a new Specsavers store in his home town of Banbridge.

He said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming patients to our new Newry Street store from 17 October and will be offering both optical and audiology clinics and services for children and adults in the local region. We were pleased to work alongside Lambert Smith Hampton who have helped us secure a high profile location within Banbridge town centre ensuring we are easy accessible to everyone.”

A number of existing Specsavers stores have relocated in the past 12 months including Belfast city centre, Bangor, Connswater and Coleraine. Each store has upsized or relocated due to successful trading in their previous location.

Ryan Kee, retail director at Lambert Smith Hampton, said: “Specsavers first entered the Northern Ireland market in the early 90’s and has become a major brand on our high streets.

“They are always looking for opportunities to expand the business into new towns and capitalise on a growing demand for services beyond just eye tests. The company’s goal was to open 30 stores a year across the UK but this has since accelerated to 50 because of growing demand.”
