No bus strops as new station is welcomed

Some passengers had been confused as to whether buses would continue to stop at the War Memorial or would now be departing from the bus facility in Kenlis Street.

But a Translink spokesperson cleared the matter up and said the new station was working well.

She said: “The new Banbridge bus facility was officially opened for passenger use on April 18th 2016.

“Bus and coach services will no longer stop at the War Memorial, but will call at and depart from the new facility at Kenlis Street. We have posted notices on our social media channels and at our old office advising passengers of this change.

“Staff have been advising passengers in person and we have written to local schools to inform them.

The passenger facility at Newry Street has also closed and all ticket information and services will operate from the new station.

The long awaited opening of the £1m bus station has been welcomed by the public in Banbridge, with Glenn Dorian calling it a ‘brilliant job’.

The facility features four new bus bays, covered bus stands with seating, a ticket and information kiosk, a small passenger waiting facility and attractive landscaping.

Translink has said that passengers have been enjoying the new bus station.

A spokesperson said: “Feedback from passengers on the opening of the new Banbridge bus facility has been extremely positive.”

Speaking after the bus station was opened last week, Translink Service Delivery Manager for the area, Gary Mawhinney said: “We are delighted to have opened this new bus station on schedule for our local passengers.

“The new station offers enhanced, comfortable waiting facilities for passengers and visitors to the town and is major investment and addition to the town’s local infrastructure.

“We are getting some great feedback from our customers already and as we see more and more people using our Goldline coach services we hope this new station will make our services even more attractive to encourage more people to make the bus their first choice of travel.”

The new bus facility has also been welcomed by local politicians.
