Crashed his car while turning into supermarket

When he misjudged the speed of an oncoming car while he was turning into a supermarket a 31-year-old man caused a collision.

Stuart Hamilton, Boggle Hill Road, Gilford, was fined £100 last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court, sitting in Newry, for driving without due care and attention on July 16 this year.

He was also given three points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that Hamilton was driving along the Castlewellan Road in Banbridge intending to turn right in Tescos.

He misjudged the distance and pulled across the path of another car causing a collision.

A solicitor representing the defendant said there were two oncoming vehicles.

She explained that Hamilton failed to assess the speed of the second vehicle.

The solicitor said her client suffered a broken finger and there was damage to both vehicles which was covered by his insurance.
