Just two weeks after she got a car an 18-year-old woman was caught driving it without having insurance.
Alanis Anderson, Tullyraine Road, Donaghcloney, was fined £200 for the offence last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.
She was also banned from driving for six months and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
Fines of £25 were imposed for not having a number plate and failing to produce her licence to police.
The court heard that at 12.30am on April 9 this year at Burnview Terrace in Banbridge police saw a car and checks revealed it was not insured. They spoke to the defendant who was the driver and she said that she did have insurance.
Police asked her to produce her licence and insurance but she never produced the documents.
Anderson, who pleaded guilty herself in court, said that she had lost both parts of the licence. She had passed the test in July last year.
She also said that the car had been taken off her because of tax and she never had the vehicle insured. She only had it about a couple of weeks.
The defendant said that on this occasion she had been picking up a friend who had been at the Coach.
