Man was selling clothes at doors

While selling clothes door to door a 45-year-old man did not have the proper authorisation to do this nor had he the correct vehicle insurance, a Banbridge court has heard.

Gurnam Singh, Burnview Terrace, Banbridge, admitted not having insurance when he appeared last Thursday at the local magistrates’ court.

Singh also pleaded guilty to a charge of acting as a pedlar without a certificate authorising him to do so.

The court heard he was stopped while driving on the Moyallon Road, Gilford.

He had been selling clothes door to door without the appropriate certificate and he did not have business insurance.

A barrister representing the defendant said that otherwise he was lawfully insured.

He explained Singh was carrying on the family business and traded in Northern Ireland.

When he came over from England he stayed in Banbridge.

The barrister added that the pedlar certificate had lapsed four years ago.

Singh, it was stated, had now applied for a new licence.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, said the defendant had suffered due to technicalities.

He said he was prepared to take a lenient view on the matters.

For each offence he imposed a conditional discharge for two years.

Judge Copeland imposed six points for the no insurance charge and ordered the defendant to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
