McCallister calls for clear targets

John McCallister, Independent Unionist candidate for South Down, has outlined his belief that the parties that negotiate the next Programme for Government must have clear and unambiguous targets.

He believes these targets should be to increase economic productivity and employment and reduce poverty in Northern Ireland.

Mr McCallister said: “Previous Executives have made broad and bland commitments, such as we will put the economy first.

“Programme for Government targets and commitments have been far too numerous, complex and difficult for the public to understand and subsequently too easy to ignore.

“If the main political parties are serious about transforming Northern Ireland, they must set targets to at the very least bring us into line with the rest of the UK on these key issues.

“Setting high level and easily identifiable targets will drive policy development.”
