After drinking the night before, one drink the next day was enough to put a 38-year-old man over the drink drive limit.

Steven Dawson, Victoria Gardens, Banbridge, was fined £185 last Thursday at the local court for driving with excess alcohol in blood on November 5 last year.

He was also banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy. Dawson was deemed suitable for the drink driving course which, if completed, would reduce his ban.

The court heard that police went to a one vehicle road traffic accident on the Glenloughlan Road at 7.20pm.

The car was on its roof and when they spoke to the defendant, who was the driver, they could smell alcohol on his breath. He was taken to the custody suite where he became ill and had to be taken to hospital where a blood sample was taken. On analysis it gave a reading of 95.

A solicitor representing Dawson said he had been out the night before watching a football match and had taken alcohol.

She explained that the next day he went for one drink. He felt he was okay but that drink pushed him over the limit.
