A MUSICAL chairs feel to the launch of consultation on the proposed closure of Dromore Police Station has struck a sour note locally and raised fears of a poor turnout by a confused public.

The first consultation meeting to be announced was that still due to take place following a scheduled DPP meeting on February 29, this prompting criticism over its Banbridge venue, but subsequent word of an earlier meeting in Dromore has itself been followed by two rapid-fire changes in date and location.

Early last Monday evening (February 6), just as The Leader was going to press, police announced a public meeting, to discuss the police station, would be held on Wednesday, February 15, in the Church Street premises of Dromore In Action, following a scheduled meeting of the Community Police Liaison Committee.

But by Thursday, absent any formal announcement, word had emerged that the meeting had been postponed for a week, until Wednesday, February 22, and relocated to Dromore Central Primary School ,
