Craigavon Area Hospital is celebrating the achievement of the prestigious Baby Friendly Award.

The hospital is the latest of a number of Southern Health and Social Care Trust facilities to receive the accreditation.

The Baby Friendly initiative is a global programme by UNICEF and the World Health Organisation to increase breastfeeding rates and improve care for all mothers.

Southern Trust Chair, Roberta Brownlee said: “I would like to congratulate the whole maternity team for their commitment and hard work in achieving this award. Baby Friendly Accreditation demonstrates that our maternity facilities have the best practice standards in place and new mums can be confident that our staff are truly dedicated to supporting them to give their babies the best possible start to life.”
