Kinallen Rural Community Development Association is among the 33 winning groups chosen by Lidl Northern Ireland to receive backing from the retailer as part of its Community Works campaign.

This local community group was selected as a winner out of over 4,000 nominations and subsequently were visited by the Lidl Community Crew who joined them for a family fun evening and a barbecue to celebrate the win.

They were also presented with a donation from Lidl that will allow the group to continue lifting the spirits of local residents of Kinallen by funding activities for those in and around the local community.

Around 100 people came to the event and availed of a bouncy castle, DJ set, face painting station, balloon modelling and a premium barbecue.

Deputy Lord Mayor Paul Greenfield and local Councillor Mark Baxter were also in attendance.

After the visit from the Lidl Community crew, Andrew Dickson from the KRCDA said, “We are absolutely delighted to have been selected as a winner with the Lidl Community Works Campaign.

“Everyone who attended on the night enjoyed every aspect of the event and we cannot thank Lidl enough for their support.

“The financial backing Lidl have presented us with will allow us to continue our work and we’re so grateful to them for that”.

Lidl Community Crew member Deborah Waugh said, “We all loved getting to join with this fantastic group for a BBQ and family fun day.

“It was great to get to recognise all the volunteers in this way and to reward the group for all of their amazing work.”

The Lidl Community Works campaign, which launched in June this year, sees Lidl Northern Ireland back a variety of local community groups and various projects from all over the province.

The Lidl Community Crew will visit each of the winning groups in the coming months as they plan and host fundraising events and present food demonstrations to help sustain the fantastic work of each project in their local area.

Food will be a central focus at each of the events, helping Lidl not only mark the Northern Ireland Year of Food and Drink 2016 but also celebrate the many local suppliers that Lidl Northern Ireland works with.
