Andrea scoops top ‘Women in Business’ award

A Banbridge woman has been praised for her business acumen after winning an award at the recent ‘Women in Business’ event.

Andrea Martin, together with her business partner Tori Higginson, won the ‘Best Start Up’ award for their new business ‘Stamp Promotions’.

Andrea, who lives in Banbridge, was thrilled to win the prestigious award and says that she is certain that it will give the fledgling business a boost.

Andrea and Tori, having worked together for four years, made the decision in January 2012 to set up their own promotions company, which provides branded products for businesses, including pens and USBs.

“We have both been in the industry for quite a number of years,” explained Andrea. “In January 2012 we started up Stamp Promotions and decided to join Women in Business a few months later.

“We thought it would be good for networking. We have found the whole networking group really supportive and people are passing us leads.”

The pair were delighted to win the award for Best Start Up and have been shocked by the boost it has already given to the company.

“It was a big surprise on the night,” continued Andrea. “We weren’t expecting it at all and we were over the moon.

“A lot of people are recognising us already. I was at a Chamber of Commerce event in Monaghan and companies had already heard about us and had requested to see us.

“It was definitely the right decision for us to join Women in Business and enter the competition.

“It is still early days for us but we are looking at bringing in a new sales rep and expanding into the south of Ireland.

“It was difficult for us at the start and a lot of that was down to the economy. Last year our sales figures were very up and down but this year, at least for the last six months, have been improving and we are now able to preempt what will happen in the next six months.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported us, including all of our clients, as well as our friends and family,” Andrea concluded.
