Woman (91) had purse stolen

A 91-year-old woman had her purse stolen while she shopped in a supermarket in the Castlewellan Road, last Friday March 14.

The woman is believed to have been distracted by a male, when a female took the purse from her handbag which was sitting in the trolley.

Earlier that morning, thieves attempted to use a stolen bank card in Banbridge which had been taken from a 74-year-old woman in Newry.

The woman had been out shopping when her purse was stolen while out shopping in The Quays, Newry.

She was approached by a young, foreign male who engaged her in conversation. The female later discovered her purse had been taken from her bag.

The male was described as being dark skinned, in his 20’s, of medium build and was wearing dark clothes.

It is believed the male and female may have been travelling in a green Mercedes C200 Sport Auto.

Police are looking at a link between the two incidents and are appealing to anyone who has information in relation to either theft to contact them the PSNI at Newry or Banbridge on 0845 600 8000.
