Church group on song for Ugandan school

A LOCAL church group is raising funds to build four classrooms for the youngest primary school children at Buyobe Primary School in Uganda.

Back in 2010 a team of 17 from Bannside Presbyterian Church, assisted by the Bangor based charity Abanna, funded and built classrooms for the older children at Buyobe. A follow up team intend to complete the project in 2013 by building additional classrooms.

At present the youngest children are taught outside under the shade of a tree and when it rains they rush into the small mud built classrooms even though the roof leaks and there are cracks in the walls.

The vision is that education can lead the children out of poverty and while they are at school the Abanna organisation can look after their welfare, provide food, medical care and clean water and show love in a practical way. The team also intend to help the homeless and abandoned street children in Kampala.

The local country gospel group’s unique style of music has reached a whole new generation across Ireland, the UK and America.

Their position as one of the country’s top country/gospel bands was affirmed in February 2012 when the group opened the International Festival of Country Music in Belfast‘s Odyssey Arena. They have accompanied George Hamilton IV and shared the bill with Ricky Skaggs and Reba McEntyre.

Live Issue is considered by many to be one of the most popular country gospel groups in the British Isles, not only for their musical and singing ability but also for their warmth, humility and sense of humour.

The group will also share the stage with the talented Kathryn Mitchell. Everyone is welcome.

The concert venue is Bannside Presbyterian Church, Castlewellan Road, Banbridge, on Saturday January 12 2013 at 7.45pm. Tickets are £10 each and a family ticket (two adults and two U16s) is £30. You can pay at the door or tickets are available from Faith Mission, 73 Bridge St, Banbridge.
