COMMONSENSE BEGINNING TO BE HEARD - GRIFFIN
THE voices of commonsense and moderation are beginning to be heard, Alliance by-election candidate David Griffin has claimed.
He was celebrating one of the largest first preference votes for his party in recent years.
The former Banbridge Academy vice-principal claimed 357 first preference votes in last week's Dromore by-election, almost double the party's previous results.
He believes that in any council election this will translate into a council seat.
Mr Griffin said he believed it was a strong vote for the party, rather than a personal vote for himself.
"The voices of commonsense and moderation are beginning to be heard. It was a strong vote for Alliance and all that it stands for," he added.
Speaking after the final results were announced, Mr Griffin said the party had established a firm basis that they hope to build on at the next council election.
He thanked all the election workers for their hard work in the run up to the poll and said it was sad that some of the issues affecting Dromore had not been referred to by the other candidates.
Mr Griffin said there was an opportunity for Dromore, when Grahams move out of the town, to address problems in the area and regenerate.
