A BANBRIDGE student is among five Queen’s University Film Studies students to be chosen to create a short film with the help of Cinemagic.

Emmett Byrne and fellow students will soon be script-writing and directing a film for Phoenix Natural Gas which will be shown at the Cinemagic Festival in November.

The project, which is being run by Cinemagic, will involve each student with every aspect of film-making - from idea generation and script writing through to production and direction.

Taking corporate social responsibility as its core theme, the film will focus on the importance of business ‘giving something back’ and with Phoenix having recently been awarded Business In The Community ‘Big Tick’ award for corporate social responsibility, the company felt it was an ideal opportunity to create awareness around the concept.

The company has picked up this award for eight consecutive years - more times than any other business throughout the UK and Ireland.

As part of the project, the students selected will work with leaders in their field, both in the local film industry and business world and they have already attended a high-level briefing with senior management at the gas company.

“This opportunity provided by Cinemagic is an excellent way for the other students and me to gain real-life commercial experience,” said Emmett. “It is exciting to know that our film is going to be screened at events and also promoted by Phoenix to their customers.”

Niall Martindale, Phoenix business planning manager, added, “It was great to have the students and the wider Cinemagic team here at Phoenix. Their enthusiasm for the project was fantastic and they conducted themselves in a very professional manner.

“Hopefully, all of them will go on in the future to really make their mark in television or film”.

Phoenix plan to show the completed film at corporate events and on their website, while Cinemagic have confirmed a screening to the public as part of the upcoming Cinemagic Festival in November.
