IT was a right royal occasion at Dromore Nursery School recently when staff and pupils alike dressed to impress for the ‘Kings and Queens Ball’.

The lavish ball was the social event of the year for the host of A-list fairytale characters in attendance.

Revellers enjoyed feasting, dancing and a tall tale or two in a nursery school made over for the occasion.

The event was typical of the school’s routine efforts to bring to life for the children each and every topic they cover, and when the topic is ‘Fairytale’, the sky’s the limit. “The children brought their ‘Fairytale’ topic to life as they all came to school dressed as their favourite fairytale character,” said principal, Mrs. Sharon Beattie. “The staff also looked very different.

“The school was transformed into a wonderland experience and all the fairytale characters in the land attended; they had dancing in the Great Hall, a sumptuous outdoor banquet, a storytelling experience and everyone was presented with a new crown of Fairyland.”

Mrs. Beattie explained that for each topic the children covered the school tried to bring it to life by way of a real experience.

“For example,” she said, “during the ‘People Who Help Us’ topic we invite in lots of people from our local community to demonstrate their job and show the boys and girls their uniforms etc.

“This is an important part of the school ethos in providing the children with broad experiences they will not forget.

“Who knows? Maybe next year we will get a reply from Buckingham Palace.”
