Former principal’s fraud charges withdrawn

FORMER Dromara PS principal Stanley Poots has had all 15 fraud charges against him withdrawn.

The 67-year-old was initally charged with the offences last year, following his retirement last June after more than 40 years in education.

Mr Poots, of Hillsborough Road, Dromara was awarded an MBE last year specifically for his services to education.

The charges, dating back to April 2006, were withdrawn “without prejudice” during an appearance at Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Speaking last November when first questioned on the matter Mr Poots said, “No charges have been made against me and I welcome the opportunity to address the allegations fully.”
