FUNDRAISING GROUP NAMES NEW CAUSES

DROMORE Community Charity Events Committee has named the two causes set to benefit from this coming year's round of fundraising.

The two were chosen at the committee's recent annual general meeting in the Market Bar, Dromore.

They are the Abbey Harding Memorial Foundation (a brain injury equipment charity) and a diabetes charity yet to be selected.

Meanwhile, the committee's officers remain unchanged.

President, Owen Cull, Chairman, Peter Branker; Seretary, Joanie Branker and Treasurer, Tracey Clydesdale were all re-elected at the meeting.

The committee's first major fundraiser of 2010 will be its flagship event, Stars In Your Eyes, an annual highlight of Dromore's charity fundraising calendar.

The event is planned for April 17, again in Dromore Community Centre, and further details will be announced in due course.

Hailed in recent years by Ulster Unionist Councillor Carol Black as "a group of enthusiastic and passionate volunteers giving up their spare time to help causes which are close to their hearts", the committee is hoping the local community will continue to support its efforts with the same enthusiasm and generosity it has shown to date.

Last year the committee raised 3,200, divided equally between chosen charities, the Royal Victoria Hospital Haematology Ward and

the Shine A Light charity, a voluntary organisation focused on improving quality of life for children with cancer.

In 2008 the total raised was 5,500, cheques for 2,750 presented to PIPS Suicide Awareness and Banbridge's Donard Special School.

In 2007 more than 5,000 was shared equally between Newry Hospice and the Craigavon Area Hospital Neo-Natal Unit.

Secretary, Joanie Branker, said, "We very much want to thank everyone for their continuing support of the Dromore Community Charity Events Committee.

"Every year people support us and every year we are able as a result to hand over donations to very worthy causes.

"We hope that this help and support will continue; it really is very much appreciated."
