JEANS FOR GENES EVENT AT DROMARA PLAYGROUP
CHILDREN at Dromara Playgroup will be taking part in this year's Jeans for Genes Day on Friday, 3rd October.
As well as making a donation, the children and staff will also be wearing their jeans to generate even more money for the charity.
Jeans for Genes is a charity which aims to change the world for children living with genetic disorders.
The money raised each year funds care and support for children and their families, as well as research into the causes and cures of these conditions.
treatment
Three year old Georgina Bailey, who attends Dromara Playgroup, has the genetic metabolic condition of Hyperinsulinism and Epilepsy.
She receives treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, where her conditions are controlled with medication.
Genetic disorders affect one in 33 children born in the UK – the equivalent of around one in every class of schoolchildren.
Many of these have no current treatment and more than half of all childhood deaths in the UK are linked to a genetic condition.
The theme for Jeans for Genes Day this year is 'GENErations' and the charity is celebrating the way genes can filter down through families, influencing a child's appearance, personality, career choices and even sense of humour.
