MASONS HONOURED FOR CHARITY WORK

DROMARA'S Masonic Lodge had been honoured for its charity work and contribution to the community.

The honour came at a recent civic reception in Lisburn, where the mayor presented the lodge with gifts, including the city's coat-of-arms.

Himself a representative for the Dromara area, the mayor, Councillor Allan Ewart, hosted the reception, where he praised the lodge for its "outstanding" work and congratulated members on their fundraising successes.

The reception was held primarily to acknowledge what Mr. Ewart called the lodge's "outstanding charitable achievements" over a period of many years.

"It was a privilege and an honour," he said later, "to confer the city's coat-of-arms onto the lodge and indeed present them with a gift in recognition of their outstanding work in the local community and their excellent achievement with charitable collections.

"It is my understanding that the Grand Master's Fund raised more than 600,000 in his term of office.

"I would like to congratulate them and send my best wishes to them for this incoming year."

The lodge, in turn, thanked the mayor, whose gifts, they said, would take pride of place in their hall. Master of the Lodge, Jonathan McKnight, said, "I would like to thank the mayor, on behalf of the lodge, for his kind words and for hosting us at Lisburn City Council.

"We are delighted the Mayor recognised us in this way and we will display the gifts with pride in our hall in Dromara."

Other lodge members and officers include Treasurer, Adrian McDowell; Secretary, Alan Wilson; Deputy Provincial Grand Master Rodney McCurly; Paul Stewart, Philip Wilson, James Stewart, John Megarry, Robert Patterson, Raymond Jess and Clifford Fitsimmons.
