MORE SOCIAL HOUSING PLANNED FOR KINALLEN

FURTHER moves are afoot to help meet the demand for social housing in Kinallen.

Hot on the heels of recent newbuild in the area, the South Ulster Housing Association has announced plans to provide additional social housing there.

More than a dozen new homes are planned on an as yet unidentified site; it is understood one of several sites will be selected in coming weeks.

Among the first to welcome the news were Lagan Valley MP and MLA Jeffrey Donaldson and MLA Edwin Poots.

Speaking during a visit to Kinallen the pair said they were delighted with the SUHA announcement.

The planned new housing, they said, would help meet the high housing demand in the Kinallen and Dromara area.

In a joint statement they said, "We are delighted to be informed that the South Ulster Housing Association is to build approximately 14 new social housing houses within the Kinallen village area.

"With high housing demands within the Kinallen and Dromara area this scheme will be most welcome and help alleviate housing demands in the area."

Pledging to consult with the SUHA, they praised the association's recent development in Kinallen.

"We will continue to work closely with the Housing Association and their Chief Executive, Mr. Preston," they said, "on the location and house types that are required for the area.

"This Housing Association completed a newbuild recently within the Kinallen area and their tenants were extremely happy with the workmanship and the housing facilities.

"We have been advised that they are currently looking at several sites within the Kinallen area and hope to choose one within the next two to three weeks.

"Again, this is a great news story for the area and we, as public representatives, will continue to work hard and deliver for the betterment of our constituents within the Kinallen area."
