PLACE OF ENORMOUS POTENTIAL
AN urban design lecturer has hailed Dromore as a place with a rich heritage and enormous potential.
The encouraging assessment comes as 11 of Queen’s University lecturer Jayne Bassett’s Post Graduate students hit town for several weeks of fieldwork as part of their MSc Environmental Planning studies.
As The Leader reported last week, the students are conducting a town centre planning project, with some initial assistance from Town Centre Manager Mechelle Brown, who will be facilitating visits and providing background information on the issues in Dromore.
While a hypothetical student project, it is neverhtless valued for providing a ‘real-life’ learning experience for the future planners.
“Our Planning course at Queen’s involves a lot of practical projects,” said Professor Aileen Stockdale, Director of Education and one of the project leaders. “We think projects are a great opportunity for students to develop valuable skills which will help the transition from study to employment; it’s also very enjoyable for the students to get into local towns and deal with real planning issues.”
The visitors will be out and about in town over the next few weeks, talking to retailers, shoppers and residents about various aspects of the town.
