RANKIN PRAISES MP'S RECORD
A DROMORE councillor has hailed sitting Lagan Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson, newly reselected to contest the seat in the upcoming general election, as a man whose track record even political opponents can't contest.
DUP Councillor Paul Rankin congratulated Mr. Donaldson on his unanimous selection, adding, "Jeffrey has been one of the most hard-working of Northern Ireland's MPs, tirelessly championing bread-and-butter issues for Lagan Valley at Westminster and even political opponents cannot argue with his track record.
"I look forward to assisting Jeffrey in the upcoming election campaign."
Mr. Donaldson himself, meanwhile, followed his selection, at a meeting of the Lagan Valley DUP Westminster Association, with a call for Unionist unity.
The election, he said, would be crucial to the Province's future and Unionist unity was essential to maximum representation in the House of Commons.
"I am very pleased to have been given the unanimous support of my party colleagues to fight for Lagan Valley," he said. "It has been my honour and privilege to serve the constituency in Parliament for the last 13 years.
"The people of Lagan Valley have always kept faith in me and I have always sought to serve them to the very best of my ability. I am looking forward to the election as I have a proven track record of hard work that I can stand over.
"This election will be crucial for Ulster's future. It is essential that Lagan Valley and the rest of Northern Ireland is represented by a party that will not cease from defending Northern Ireland's interests within the Union.
"We want to work more closely with other unionists in Parliament and we continue to hold the view that Unionist unity is essential if we are to maximise our representation in the House of Commons."
Formally submitting himself for a fourth time to the people of Lagan Valley, MR. Donaldson, asked for their continuing support.
Meanwhile, Lagan Valley Association chairman Roy Young said Mr. Donaldson had repeatedly proven himself a principled Unionist who stands up for his constituents.
"He has fought for and secured much needed investment, helped people on bread-and-butter issues and stood up for sound principled Unionism in Westminster," he said, "We are pleased to give him our fullest support and would encourage our friends and neighbours in the constituency to do the same."
