A welcoming service for the Rev John Corrie has taken place at Dromore Methodist Church on Sunday September 6.
The Rev Corrie has been stationed to Lisburn and Dromore Methodist Circut with responsibility for Dromore and Priesthill Methodist Church.
He succeeds the Rev Colin Gracie as minister of Dromore and Priesthill (Zion) Methodist Churches
The service was conducted by Down District Superintendent Rev Andrew Kingson and also taking part were Circut Steward Ivan Barr from Trinity Methodist and Circut Superintendent Rev Mervyn Ewing.
Representatives from churches in the area also attended to welcome Rev Corrie and wish him well in his new role.
The Rev Corrie has expressed his desire to work closely with sister churches.
In the address welcome and support were expressed for both Rev Corrie and his wife Jan who also serves as a local preacher.
A supper afterwards gave opportunity for colleagues and congregation to spend time with Rev Corrie and his wife and get to know him.
“Our family attended Dunmurry Presbyterian Church, ” he said, “where I was a member of the BB, Youth Club, Youth Fellowship and Sunday School.
Mr Corrie moved to England and taught in schools for children with severe learning difficulties, progressing to the post of Deputy-Head Teacher.
He and his wife had two children along the way.
“Angela and James are both grown now and fending for themselves in Southampton., ” he said.
“I retired from education under ill-health and started a small gardening business.
“It was during this time that I felt a call to preach.
after serving five years in Lincolnshire he transferred to the Irish Connexion and was stationed in the Donegal, Ballintra and Inver Circuit.
