Local politicians Jo-Anne Dobson MLA and Councillor Glenn Barr recently visited the Bean There Coffee House atBanbridge’s Church Street, home to the local Community Foodbank.

Meeting with Manager Janadine Graham, who heads up a team of 14 cafe volunteers and 12 caterers, Mrs Dobson said: “I commend everyone involved in the community foodbank initiative and was delighted Glenn and I got the opportunity to come along, to meet with staff and to see exactly what is involved.

“There are many reasons why local people may grow hungry ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income.

“The boxes of food which are put together the food bank make a massive difference, helping to prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and health problems.

Councillot Barr said: “I recommend ‘Bean There,’ which uses a unique honesty box system, as a place to relax and enjoy a coffee but more importantly to bring along a few items which can help those in need.”

The Foodbank is open from 9am to 2pm Monday to Friday.
