They say they are investigating a number of complaints from motorists who discovered their cars were scratched with a sharp object whilst parked on the Banbridge Road, just opposite the Church of Ireland.

The latest incident occurred between Monday April 25 and Tuesday April 26 when a dark blue Citroen C1 had deep scrapes made all along the passenger side.

Police say the damage is very expensive to repair and infuriating for the owners.

A police spokesperson said, “It has left the owners and the police baffled as to why anyone would want to do such a stupid, thuggish thing.

“We want to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously around parked cars in that area.

“Or maybe you’ve heard somebody bragging about it? How would you feel if it was yout car?”

Anyone who can help the police you are asked to ring them on 101, quoting reference number 486 of 27/04/16.

“Together, we can put these people where they belong, and keep them away from our cars. Owners, be vigilant, and call us with any suspicious behaviour you see,” said a spokesperson for the police.
