Environment Minister Mark Durkan has announced funding to the Upper Lagan Buffer Zone Project at Dromore.
An £8,000 grrant goes to Dromore and District Angling Club for provision of Pasture Pumps to supply drinking water from the River Lagan for livestock and for the provision of fencing to protect banks and the river from cattle.
The grant will be provided by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, which each year invites voluntary and community groups, local councils and other not-for-profit organisations to compete for grant funding.
The Minister said: ‘It is always great to see local people getting involved to improve their local environment. These grants enable communities to use their local knowledge of rivers in their area to make a positive, targeted difference. I commend Dromore and District Angling Club for their great vision here. They very much deserve to be rewarded for that.
“Cleaner, healthier rivers will support tourism and benefit local communities socially. I want to build on our positive relationships with the community and voluntary sector so that we can all do our bit for the water environment.”
