AMATEURS SECONDS SHOW THEIR STRENGTH IN DEPTH

East Down II 0 Dromore Amateurs II 2

DROMORE Amateurs II had to make five changes from their winning team of the previous week but still put in a battling performance to beat East Down II.

East Down, a big physical team, started well and could have been two up early on but failed to take two great chances.

Dromore had a strong breeze behind them and gradually came into the game. They almost went in front after 20 minutes when a Dromore cross was headed out and Burden ran onto it 25 yards out and his fierce shot was going into the top corner when the keeper somehow got across and pushed it round the post.

It seemed Dromore would be up against it in the second half playing into the strong breeze but the Dromore defence got a grip on the game and restricted East Down to long range shots which never seriously troubled keeper Neill.

Dromore went ahead after 15 minutes, Curran and Beattie combined to put Gibson through and his strength and pace allowed him to hold off a defender and place his shot low past the keeper. Neill came to Dromore's rescue when a high bouncing ball deceived the Dromore defence, he raced off the line and just beat the forward to the ball.

The game became more physical with the tackles flying in but Dromore stood firm and sealed the points in the final minutes. Burden made a great break down the right wing and Gibson rose above the defence to head his perfect cross in at the far post.

This week Dromore Amateurs II travel to Civil Service II.
