BESTER MAN FOR THE JOB?
BANBRIDGE Rugby Club's new coaching consultant Andre Bester says he is not even thinking about speculation linking him with the Ulster job.
The former Belfast Harlequins and Rotherham head coach was on holiday in South Africa for a few days and came home to discover his name linked with local rugby's top job.
Speculation has been rife over who will take on the Ravenhill hotseat after coach Mark McCall resigned last week.
McCall's position had been under scrutiny with the team bottom of the Magners League and after the 32-14 home defeat by Gloucester in the Heineken Cup.
"I came home to see all these rumours written in the newspapers - it's not even worth commenting on," Bestler told the Leader.
"I'm just enjoying being involved in Banbridge at the minute because they're a club with the right ethos, one that we share and I'm enjoying my time there.
"They are a great club and before now they have been good to me and the sides I have been involved with. Taking up the role of coaching consultant was my way of saying thank-you to the club for all the things they have done."
Bann currently sit third in All Ireland League Division Three after a convincing 26-17 win over Naas on Saturday and Bester is of the belief that Bann can go even further this season.
"I think that the coaching staff we have at Banbridge are fantastic as are the players. They're all pulling in the one direction and with that mentality we can go from strength to strength.
reason
"There is no reason why we can't be ambitious and aspire to play at a higher level and encourage players to come to Banbridge and play their senior rugby here.
"We've had a great start to the AIL season and hopefully that will continue. Losing to Ards was a poor result and it was a game we never should have lost but we recovered well with a big win with Nenagh.
"As I keep saying to the lads you are only as good as your next match and if we continue the great sense of trust and belief amongst the players then we will continue to progress," Bester added.
Bann return to action in the Ulster Senior League this Saturday when they face Instonians away, kick off 2.30pm.
