Clann Eireann prove too strong for Seconds

TUESDAY January 22 saw Banbridge Seconds meet Clann Eireann in the second round of the B2 league.

With Captain Clare McCullough missing a reshuffled Bann took the court.

Clan Eireann started of the first quarter strong with an unsettled Banbridge finding it difficult to get the ball into the shooting circle. Towards the end of the first quarter Banbridge began to settle but trailed by one goal.

June Cochrane replaced Mona Lewis in GA in the second quarter but Clann Eireann defence proved too strong picking up loose balls and converting them into goals.

Bann made several changes at half time. C Mary Weir changed into WA, Tanya Hughes WD moved into GD, Elaine Henry moved in C and Stephanie Thompson took court as WD.

A determined Bann found momentum and super defence work from GK Christine Cartmill & GD Tanya Hughes allowing Bann to convert Clann Eireann mistakes into goals. Bann won the third quarter by one goal, although Clan Eireann still led the game by seven goals.

In the last quarter WA Lisa Doherty moved into C, Leanne Burns into WA and Mona Lewis replaced Cara Malcolmson as GS. Bann knew that they hard to work hard in the last quarter and Clann Eireann were equally determined.

With each team holding their own centre passes Bann knew they had to work to do. With only two steals Bann pulled back by two goals but Clann Eireann proved too resilient and won the game by five goals. A great team effort.

Team: GK Christine Cartmill, GD Elaine Henry, Tanya Hughes, WD Tanya Hughes, Stephanie Thompson, Leanne Burns, C Mary Weir, Lisa Doherty, WA Lisa Doherty, Mary Weir, GA Mona Lewis, June Cochrane, GS Cara Malcolmson, Mona Lewis.
