Dromore find it's fun to play at the YMCA
Londonderry YMCA 8
Dromore 47
DROMORE made the long trip to Londonderry on Saturday with high hopes of progressing into the quarter finals of the Powerade Towns Cup.
YMCA made a promising start to the match with a drop goal attempt hitting the post and when Dromore were penalised at the ruck the YMCA kicker put his side 3–0 up.
From the restart Dromore put pressure on the YMCA backline and Gareth Fitzpatrick charged down a kick and showed neat footwork to win the race for the touchdown with Sam Russell converting. This was quickly followed by another try by Matt Tamalii and Dromore were settled into their patterns.
Claude Crawford made his return to Dromore colours after injury and scored the next try after good handling in the backline. Philip Lunn then added Dromore’s fourth with a well taken try. Sam Russell converted both to leave Dromore in a commanding 26–3 lead.
Just before half time Dromore centre Gareth Martin was put into space by James Thompson and galloped his way over in the corner, again Sam Russell added the extras and at half time the score was 33–3 to Dromore.
Dromore made a change at half time with Gareth Martin taking a deserved break. Steven Nolan came on at out half and James Thompson moved to centre.
YMCA never gave up trying and were rewarded with a try early in the second half. This seemed to wake Dromore up again.
Steven Nolan put Tamalii into a gap and the big Samoan outpaced the YMCA defence to score under the posts. Nolan again made a good break and timed his pass well for Thompson to show his pace and score. Russell added the kicks to leave the final score 47-8 as the game finished.
Dromore have a couple of massive games coming up with Armagh on February 6 and City of Derry on February 13. Both games are at Barban Hill and President Harry Maguire is hoping the people of Dromore will come out and support their team.
