Emphatic victory

ALTHOUGH the match was closer than the score line suggests Dromore U15s secured a well deserved victory at Lurgan Park in the preliminary round of the MUYL U15 Cup,

The visitors took the lead when Town conceded a free kick 20 yards out in a central position. Dromore coach, Neville Gibson - much to his subsequent delight - gave instruction for Joel Jess take the kick and he responded a superb strike into the top corner of the Lurgan net – a goal good enough to grace any game at any level.

Daris Benallal made it 2-0 when he beat the Lurgan defence to a long free kick from Louis Simpson and calmly lifted the ball over the advancing keeper.

Despite the early setbacks Lurgan kept looking to pass the ball and their efforts were rewarded when a neat move down the right allowed their striker to round Jack Daly and net from a narrow angle to leave the half time score 1-2.

They went 3-1 ahead when Joel Jess swept a cross from the right high into the net from just inside the box. Christian Kennedy then latched on to through ball following a neat passing counter attack from the edge of their own box and calmly rounded the keeper to make it 4-1.

If Dromore thought the game was over Lurgan had other ideas. A perfectly timed run by the home striker was picked out by a precision pass from midfield and a clinical finish made it 4-2.

Kennedy then restored the three goal lead for Dromore. From the left hand corner of the box Jack Lennon played a deft, perfectly weighted pass with the outside of his right foot behind the Lurgan centre back to present the striker with a perfect opportunity which he neatly converted from 12 yards.

Lurgan were awarded a penalty for a disputed handball but Jack Daly was equal to the spot kick and made a fine save low to his left.

Dromore made it six when David Ringland was first to react when the keeper could only parry a Jess free-kick from the left and scored from close range.

Dromore squad: Jack Daly, Daniel Abraham, Louis Simpson, Jordan Brush, Simon Percy, Daris Benallal, Joel Jess, David Maze, David Ringland, Jack Lennon, Joel Jess, Aaron Ball.
