Banbridge Town U17B ease into next round

Last Saturday saw Banbridge Town U17's B beat Hillsborough 4-2 in the first round of the League Cup.

With the wind at their backs the Town got off to a flyer and with only two minutes on the clock they won a free kick deep in the Hillsborough half.

Jake Dermott swung in a fine ball which was met by the head of captain Jake Laffin to put the home team in front.

This early goal settled the Town who were able to find their passing rhythm forcing Hillsborough to play mainly on the counter attack.

Town doubled their lead in the 24th minute with a wonderful passage of play which saw four pinpoint passes leaving the Hillsborough defence helpless as Liam Farrell smashing the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box.

The second half got off in the exact same way the first started with the Town in the attack from the start.

The keeper saved two chances from Josh Dennison with Sam McCallister latching on to the rebound to put the Town three up within two minutes from the restart.

Hillsborough didn’t lie down and continued to search for a lifeline which they got 12 minutes into the second half to make the score 3-1.

Town were unfazed and within two minutes, a fine through ball from Liam Farrell put Sam McCallister one on one with the keeper and he made no mistake to reinstate the Towns three goal lead.

Hillsborough continued to try and get a foothold back in the game and 19 minutes into the second half, scored via a wicked deflection to give keeper Conor Ward no chance.

Town continued to control the play giving Hillsborough no chancesto get themselves back into the game.

This left the final score4-2.

This week’s man of the match was centre back Ryan Jones for a faultless display at the heart of the defence.
