Becky stars as Town are held to a draw in Bangor

BTLFC got off to a great start with good pressure coming high up the pitch from Jena Redpath, Tina Brush and Jessica Meehan. At the other end, Town were having to deal with very little pressure.

This caused the opposition defence to make several errors and it was top goalscorer Lauren Thompson who latched onto one to coolly slot past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 to BTLFC.

After this, Bangor started to creep more and more into the game with many shots peppering the Banbridge goal but not causing much trouble for the defence.

The longer this went on, the harder it seemed for BTLFC to get out of their own half and it was not long before the opposition got level with a long ranged attempt.

This would not dishearten the local ladies who soon got in front again after a free kick into the area from Adrianna McMullan was fumbled by the goalkeeper and Tina Brush then latched onto the ball to make it 2-1 at half time.

The second half started brightly for both teams with Banbridge trying to further their lead and Bangor trying to equalise again.

But for the heroics of the Bangor keeper, Banbridge could have had three or four more goals with saves coming from Jena Redpath, Tina Brush, Adrianna McMullan and Lauren Thompson.

After this initial attacking period, BTLFC sat in defence to try and protect the lead they had.

At this stage, great defensive work came from Carrie Moffatt, Adrianna McMullan, Becky Thompson, Hayley Annett, Michelle Spence, Becky Ervine and goalkeeper Danielle Byrne.

Having soaked up pressure for the most of the second half, it was a lucky bounce that led to the opposition striker being in the right place at the right time to slot home the equaliser.

For the final 10 minutes or so, both teams attacked each other searching for the win but it was not to be for either team and the game finished 2-2.

It was a great fighting display on the road for the locals and better looked at as a point gained rather than two points lost.

The draw was certainly no more than what BTLFC deserved as they led for most of the game.

BTLFC Player of the Match: Becky Ervine. She fought the whole match and defensively was a rock against a strong attacking side. The opposition did not get a sniff whilst Becky was around.
