Ben bags the winner as Town U15s edge Armagh out of the League Cup

Town’s Under 15s produced a fantastic performance to dump high-flying Armagh City out of the League Cup with a 1-0 win last Friday evening at Cheney Park.

Played in horrendous conditions, both sides found it difficult to get any rhythm going, but it was the visitors who took a grip of the game in the opening 20 minutes as they piled on the pressure with a series of dangerous attacks.

It was a real backs-to-the-wall effort as players threw their bodies on the line for the cause weathering the storm with Armagh failing to find a goal.

In the latter stages of the half, the locals got a grip on the game - especially in midfield and they took the lead when Shea Winters clipped a ball into the path of Ben Johnston. As he was about to pull the trigger, he was fouled just on the edge of the area and Keelan Quigley stepped up to drill a free-kick low under the keeper for a 1-0 lead at the break.

Town dug deep at the start of the second period, but Armagh failed to create any clear cut chances. It was Town who nearly scored again when a bad clearance fell kindly for Quigley but the Armagh goalkeeper saved well to keep his side in the game.

At the other end, Aaron Devlin produced a series of splendid saves to keep Town ahead as Armagh piled on the pressure to the last whistle, but every player for Banbridge worked their socks off for the cause to see the tie out for a fantastic victory.
