Best ball to be auctioned at Ports’ dinner

AT the annual Portadown FC Awards Dinner on Friday May 25 a number of items of interest to local football fans will be auctioned.

The items include a football signed by George Best which was used when George turned out for Annagh United in a friendly at Chambers Park rugby ground in 1982.

The ball is being auctioned on behalf of the Moving Mountains Trust, a local Northern Ireland based charity who work with children in Kenya, Nepal and Borneo. Money raised from the sale of the autographed football will go towards sending a group of 25 young people from the Portadown, Armagh and Craigavon area out to Kenya in July 2013, where they will be building a school and working with 80 Kenyan scouts who have been orphaned.

As well as the autographed ball a number of other items will be auctioned on the night, including a league winners medal from Portadown’s first ever title win in 1989/90, this item has been donated by a former Portadown player who wishes to remain anonymous.

Pictures of these special items along with other items such as Alfie Stewart’s match worn shirt from 1987/88 season and Vinny Arkin’s match worn shirt from the 2002 Irish Cup Final. All auction items are available to view via the Ports twitter page which is @portadownfc

If you are not attending the dinner, bids can be placed before May 25 by Emailing Gareth Verner the Portadown Supporter’s liaison Officer slo@portadownfc.co.uk
