Burns Soccer School has just appointed its first female coach.

The Banbridge-based football academy has signed up Sarah Taylor, an IFA-accredited coach and a talented footballer.

The local girl has recently played for Banbridge Town Ladies and UUJ Ladies.

She is also currently studying Sport and Exercise Science at the Ulster University, Jordanstown.

Burns Soccer School director and Dungannon Swifts player Andrew Burns said Sarah will be involved in the development of new coaching programmes across the district.

“There’s massive potential for girls’ and women’s football,” he added.

“The sport is becoming increasingly popular worldwide - just look at the interest in the women’s World Cup that has just started in Canada.

“We feel it is important to do all we can to promote the game locally for women and girls of all age groups.

“We have significant plans going forward and Sarah will have a major role to play. We are delighted to have her on board as a key member of the coaching team.”
