Cartmill on top form to deny Dergview as U14s hold on to earn a point

Town Juniors U14s recorded their second draw in as many weeks, coming away from Dungannon with a 0-0 scoreline against a very strong Dergview outfit.

Played in ideal conditions, there weren’t any clear cut chances in the early exchanges but Town’s defence had to be alert at all times as the imposing Dergview striker looked dangerous on the break.

The Juniors’ rhythm was interrupted midway through the half with two injuries, firstly the impressive Reuben Turner at centre half took a knock to his ankle but was able to carry on, and then Shea Winters who got a hand injury and he was forced off at the end of the half.

The Juniors regrouped as Cameron Sands dominated midfield, James Orr impressed at right back and with Owen Vennard putting in a great shift on the wing, they began to look for openings. They nearly took the lead after some neat build up play but Ben Johnston’s shot just went wide.

At the other end, Jonathon Cartmill was having his best game to date for Town as he commanded his area and dealt with anything that was thrown at him.

The locals almost took the lead midway through the second half after Ben Johnston was upended and Cameron Sands’ free-kick was saved brilliantly by the Dergview keeper who got down well to his right.

Town held on for the draw but credit must go to the whole squad, especially Jordan Campbell, Ruairi Andrews and Louis McBurney who all delivered when introduced to the action.

Man of the match, though, was goalkeeper Jonathon Cartmill.
