Chris Shields was the hat-trick hero for Donacloney on Saturday as they smashed past Lurgan United 4-1 in Mid Ulster Division Three.
The Cloney took the lead with Shields rattling the top corner of the net with a 30 yard free-kick after Tommy McElroy was fouled.
Ben Nelson was then taken down and Shields netted another from the resulting free-kick, doubling the lead.
In the early stages of the second half, Nelson broke away from the Lurgan United backline to finish well and make it three.
Shields then slotted past the ‘keeper to seal his hat-trick after great work from Tommy McElroy to create the chance.
Lurgan United scored a consolation goal from the penalty spot after Tim Carson fouled inside the box.
Final score 4-1 in Donacloney’s favour, a good result for the village side with impressive performances all over the pitch.
The ‘Cloney put in a solid and composed defensive display which aided the forward players, with Jason Stokes impressive at right-back and Johnny Brown slotting in at centre-half in his first game as captain in the absence of Damien Higgins.
Darren Brooker was reliable as ever in the middle of the park.
Donacloney Firsts hope to push on from this game with a home fixture against Moira Albion this weekend.
Donacloney Reserves’ cup game last weekend at home to Silverwood was postponed. The Reserves are away to Gilford Crusaders in the league on Saturday.
