Cloney keen to make it a season to remember for 125th anniversary

The club, thought to have been founded in 1890, are in the midst of their 125th year and so the Division Three club are keen to make this coming season one to remember on the pitch.

Having struggled to survival in the league last season, they’ll be hoping for a more secure campaign, marshalled by new manager Errol Curran.

Curran has previously been involved at several clubs including Glenavon, Banbridge Town and Dromara Village but is pleased to have now taken over at his local side.

“I’ve been involved at a lot of clubs in the past but when the opportunity came about to manage Donacloney I didn’t have to think too long about it,” he said.

“I heard about the 125th Anniversary, and the Cloney are my local team, so I’m proud to now manage my home team.

“I have a lot of respect for the people at the club who work so hard, people like ,my assistant Gary Knox in particular and the other committee members. Also Gavin Truesdale and Matthew Holmes who are in charge of our Reserve Team have been a big help to me so far.

“We’re in Mid Ulster Division Three again and I’m hoping we’ll do well in the league this season and put together a good run in the cups.

“We have signed eight new players over the course of pre-season, some of those have played a good level of football in the past, and along with the existing squad, I’m looking forward to getting started.”

The Cloney kick things off on Saturday 15th August at home to Scarva Rangers in this season’s Marshall Cup opening round before their league campaign begins against Aghalee Village a week later.
