Cloney’s second string suffer heavy defeat to high flyers Silverwood United

Donacloney Reserves faced a strong Silverwood United Reserves side who sit second in Reserve Division Three at Gordon Playing Fields and were on the receiving end of a 5-0 defeat.

Silverwood had a 4-0 lead at half-time after a poor first half from Donacloney.

Although the ‘Cloney upped their game in the second half, it was much too little, too late.

Silverwood’s fifth goal came with the last kick of the game, keeper Elliot Gibson got a hand to it, but not enough to push it past the post.

Jonathan Stevenson’s return to the team with a full 90 minutes under his belt, Chris Clague back in the side after missing the previous game and captain Hugh Dempsey’s battling performance are positives for the side to build on.

Donacloney Firsts are due to play Hillsborough Boys at home on Saturday in the First Round of the Beckett Cup, while the Reserves are at Gordon Playing Fields again this week, this time taking on Lurgan United in the league.
