However, he won’t make his debut in Friday evening’s home game against Markethill Swifts in the Bob Radcliffe Cup as he’s getting married on Saturday.

Costello made his name in Irish League circles by scoring 22 goals for Carrick Rangers in the first half of the 08/09 Championship season.

He then moved to join Glenavon in the start of the transfer window. He remained at Mourneview Park for two and a half seasons before deciding to move to Ballymena United.

He scored eight goals in 33 appearances during his first season at the Showgrounds but moved to Dungannon SWifts in January 2013, from where he joined Loughgall in January this year.

Costello announced his signing for Rathfriland on Twitter last night.

“Delighted to have signed for my home team @RathfrilandFC... Can’t wait to get back on iveagh park and get that buzz about the club again,” he tweeted.
